Healing After Hysterectomy: Why Pelvic Floor Therapy Matters
After a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus and potentially the ovaries), many people experience changes in pelvic support, core strength, and bladder or bowel function. Think about it: there was an organ there that not only provided hormonal support but physical support to its surrounding structures. We must train those remaining structures within the pelvic floor to support each other and prevent further complications down the road. In pelvic floor physical therapy we work on restoring strength, improving mobility and reduce symptoms. This is a crucial step in healing no matter if your surgery was abdominal, vaginal or laparoscopic. With guided therapy, we can rebuild your confidence in your body and return to daily life with less discomfort and better function.

What's Really Causing This?
- Uterine Fibroids
- Endometriosis
- Adenomyosis
- Chronic Pelvic Pain
- Uterine or cervical cancer
- Abnormal Periods, usually very heavy
What You Might Be Feeling
- Pelvic Pressure
- Pelvic Pain
- Leakage
- Constipation
- Low back pain
- Core weakness
Why This Matters
After a hysterectomy, your pelvic floor muscles often weaken due to surgical trauma, loss of uterine support, and reduced core stability. Without pelvic floor physical therapy, patients may experience ongoing pelvic pressure, pain, urinary incontinence, or even pelvic organ prolapse. Ignoring this critical part of recovery can lead to poor healing, limited mobility, and long-term dysfunction. Pelvic floor therapy helps restore strength, improve posture and core support, and prevent complications. It’s not just about healing faster—it’s about healing better.
